Brent Butt is the creator, head writer, showrunner, executive producer, and sometime director of the top rated sitcom in Canadian history, Corner Gas. On that show he also starred as the lead character – gas station proprietor Brent Leroy – and was voted "Favourite Male Star" in TV Guide's Reader Poll. Prior to Corner Gas, Butt spent 15 years making people laugh on the stand-up circuit, where he quickly gained a reputation as one of the funniest men in the country. He has been a regular gala performer at the world's largest comedy festival Just For Laughs and hosted the World Comedy Tour in Singapore and Australia.

He has performed for Queen Elizabeth and thrown out the first pitch at Wrigley Field. Butt was named Best Male Stand-Up at the Canadian Comedy Awards, and in 2008 he was presented with the Comedy Network's Sir Peter Ustinov Award – an honour he shares with some of his comedic idols, including Bob Newhart, John Cleese, and John Candy. Aside from being the creative control on Hiccups, Butt recently signed a deal with Vancouver's Brightlight Pictures, to write, produce and star in a feature film, and is currently working on his own Network Special for CTV. Yet somehow he still manages to find time to pursue his first love – stand-up. These days, however, you're less likely to find him at "The Tickle Hut" or "The Chuckle Barn" and more likely at The Pantages Theatre or Massey Hall.
